Getting two for the price of one, French-Cuban musical duo Ibeyi powerfully merge jazz beats and samples with traditional instruments to create a rare sound.

It also help that twin sisters Lisa-Kaindé and Naomi Diaz, daughters of the late percussionist Anga Diaz, have music in their blood. The pair released their self-titled debut album at the beginning of 2015, paying tribute to their father and older sister who passed away in 2013. You'll find no pre-recorded backing tracks here - Naomi plays the cajón (a boxed shaped percussion instrument) and the Batá drum, while Lisa plays piano. With Frank Ocean, James Blake, and King Krule listed among their influences, their music shows a strong connection to their roots, singing in both Yoruba - a Nigerian language their ancestors spoke before they were brought to Cuba as slaves in the 1700s - and English. With shows in the UK kick starting a winter tour, the Diaz twins are making their way around Europe and you'd be highly encouraged to catch a gig if you can.
